Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival

Getting to Newcastle is super simple with connection available by road, rail and air. If arriving by car let us know and we can help you arrange parking for the duration of your adventure. Once checked into your accommodation use the rest of the day to explore the local area.

If you choose to have you're bike dropped to you, we will meet you in Newcastle on this day.

Day 2 | Newcastle to Warkworth (76km approx)

Your adventure begins! Start your morning by cycling along the Newcastle quayside, heading out east passed the cities famous bridges. The path begins to rise as you pass through the heart of the former ship building area of the Tyne. Keep an eye out for the Segedunum Roman Fort Museum which officially signals the end of Hadrian's Wall.

As you continue along the river you will reach the bustling harbour at the Fish Quays of North Shields before shortly arriving into Tynemouth. This is a great place to stop for those who love a good coffee! From here pedal along the seafront, passed Whitley Bay and on to the seaport of Blyth. Countryside and quiet lanes beckon as you leave the urban surroundings behind.

With seven miles of sandy beach and huge sand dunes, Druridge Bay provides a great next destination. From here, it's a short pedal to 'the friendliest port' of Amble before arriving into Warkworth. The historic castle is well worth a visit after you've checked into your accommodation for the evening.

Day 3 | Warworth to Berwick-upon-Tweed (82km approx)

Start your day by heading towards the awe-inspiring castles of Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh and the pretty coastal village of Craster.

We highly recommend checking out the beach at Bamburgh - the castle in the background makes for a perfect photo memory (or social media post).

Following from Bamburgh you come to Holy Island, aka Lindisfarne, a historical site for early Christianity where the Lindisfarne Gospels were created in the 8th century. From here continue your journey to Berwick-upon-Tweed and your overnight accommodation.

Day 4 | Berwick-upon-Tweed to Melrose (72km approx)

Day 4 and it's time to start heading inland along the Tweed Valley.

An unusual quirk means you'll cross the border into Scotland before heading back into England over the famous Union Suspension Bridge. For those with a sweet tooth, or for those who love a 'good cuppa', the Chainbridge honey Farm represents an ideal pit stop.

For the second time today you cross the border into Scotland - this time at Norham Castle. The final section for takes you on to Melrose and its gothic abbey.

Day 5 | Melrose to Edinburgh (88km approx)

As you continue along the Tweed Valley you will find yourself surrounded by forested hills. Continue to follow the salmon-filled river to Innerleithen, where you will come across Traquair House, reportedly the oldest continually inhabited house in Scotland. As you continue northwards the route steadily climbs up and over the Moorfoot hills where you get your first distant views of Edinburgh.

Make you way towards the city, and the finish point, through Dalkeith and Musselburgh before passing the Innocent Tunnel and the famous Arthur's Seat.

Finish your adventure in the beautiful city of Edinburgh and check into your accommodation or begin your journey back to Newcastle by train or car.

Other items you may find useful are cycle gloves and a gel seat cover. Bike helmets are required at all times on our biking adventures.

Footwear
If you do not use cleated cycle shoes we recommend you try to bring stiff-soled shoes as they provide better support for cycling. Comfortable footwear is useful when not on the bike.

Equipment
A daypack or panniers are recommended. We also advise you to bring a reusable water bottle or alternative water delivery pack (Camelback etc.), cycle glasses, puncture repair kits and spare inner tubes. Sun cream may also be required.

Nutrition and Hydration
It is important to stay well hydrated. Tap water is fine to drink but there won't be many places to refill on the rides. We also encourage you to travel with sufficient food and snacks. A lot of the rides are in remote areas meaning shops will be few and far between.
